چکیده

2014 We propose a new mechanism for indirect exchange in highly dense 3He adsorbed layers. This antiferromagnetic coupling arises from virtual exchange of particles between the solid layer and the liquid. It should predominate by more than one order of magnitude over the various ferromagnetic mechanisms proposed in the literature. It accounts for the sign and the order of magnitude of the Curie-Weiss temperature recently observed. LE JOURNAL DE PHYSIQUE LETTRES TOME 40, 1 er SEPTEMBRE 1979,

Onset of ferromagnetic exchange in adsorbed 3He films.

Nuclear magnetic resonance experiments are reported on multilayer He films adsorbed on the surface of graphite. Initially the second layer exhibits antiferromagnetic exchange, which has been measured as a function of coverage. Measurements of the nuclear magnetic susceptibility and resonant frequency for coverages around the third layer promotion precisely identify the onset of ferromagnetic ex...

Marcio Siqueira, Jan Nyéki, Brian Cowan, and John Saunders Millikelvin Laboratory, Department of Physics, Royal Holloway University of London, Egham, Surrey TW20 0EX, United Kingdom (Received 16 October 1995) We have measured the heat capacity of the second layer solid in a 3He film adsorbed on the surface of graphite to temperatures below 1 mK, in the regime where the nuclear exchange interact...

Multiple-Spin Exchange on a Triangular Lattice: A Quantitative Interpretation of Thermodynamic Properties of Two-Dimensional Solid

We apply exact high-temperature series expansions of the multiple-spin-exchange Hamiltonian for a triangular lattice to describe high precision NMR measurements of the nuclear magnetic susceptibility of 3He films adsorbed on graphite, reported here, as well as all available specific heat data. A consistent quantitative description of the unusual thermodynamic properties of the second layer soli...

Possible one-dimensional 3He quantum fluid formed in nanopores.

Heat capacity measurements have been made down to 5 mK for 3He fluid films adsorbed in one-dimensional (1D) nanometer-scale pores, 28 A in diameter, preplated with 4He of 1.47 atomic layers. At low 3He density, the heat capacity shows a density-dependent, Schottky-like peak near 150 mK asymptoting to the value corresponding to a 2D Boltzmann gas at high temperatures. The peak behavior is attrib...
